JMU Women's Club Volleyball
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. How often do we practice?
We practice four times a week (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). However, if we have a tournament on Saturday, we will not practice on Sunday. We will sometimes have a team bonding event instead of Sunday practices. We practice for 2 hours each day.
2. How many tournaments do we attend?
We attend 3-4 tournaments each semester. In the spring each team is required to attend ranking tournaments to qualify for our nationals tournament. This tournament is 4 days long and in 2021 will be held in Minneapolis, MN.
3. Is there a coach?
No. There is not a coach. Practices are run by the executive board members, Players are expected to hold themselves accountable during practice. Executive board members do coach a little bit during practice, but all players are welcomed to express their opinions and help players who ask for their opinion. Our goal is to cultivate leadership in our players.
4. How much are dues?
Each year the Executive Board reserves the right to determine the amount players owe as dues. Typically this is between 150-350 dollars per semester.
5. Are there social events?
Yes. The volleyball team participates in mixers, assigns bigs and littles, community service, and other team bonding events much like a sorority. Players are required to get 5 hours of community service each semester.
6. Do I need prior volleyball experience?
Yes. Although we are a club team, our players have lots of volleyball experience at the Junior Olympic, high school, and some even at the collegiate varsity level. If you have never played volleyball before, this is probably not the right club for you. Instead we suggest signing up for intramurals through UREC. Intramurals are still a great way to get touches and possibly improve to make the team later on!
